Two chances to see John Statz

Gigs in Monroe's Live and Róisín Dubh

JOHN STATZ, the Americana singer-songwriter is coming to Galway to play two shows - Monroe’s Live on Thursday June 18 at 11pm and the Róisín Dubh's upstairs baron Friday 19 at 8pm.

Originally from Wisconsin but now living in Denver, John is touring to promote his new album Tulsa, a blend of soft Americana and smooth folk with echoes of The Jayhawks and Whiskeytown. It was released in March and produced by critically acclaimed songwriter Jeffrey Foucault. “John writes songs you can’t shake,” says Foucault. “They follow you around all day and runthrough your head at 3am - open hearted, horizon-line songs.”

John describes Foucault as a tough taskmaster, but one who brought has out the best in him. "Jeff kicked my ass," he says. "He pushed me to crank out well-written songs. He’s such a great songwriter himself." The making of the album also coincided with a raging storm. “We had to keep the stove burning the whole day, and then the electricity went out for 10 minutes,” says Statz. “Luckily, we were just rehearsing. Tulsa feels like how I was always supposed to make a record. Hunkered down for three days, living and eating with the band, tracking live, all during the raging ‘Polar Vortex’.”

Tickets for the Monroe's show are available through www.monroes.ie, while tickets for the Róisín Dubh show are available on the door and through www.roisindubh.net
