St James suffer surprise loss

City side St James suffered a surprise one point loss, 1-6 to 0-8, to Mountbellew/Moylough at the weekend.

St Michael’s also went down by four points to Cortoon Shamrocks with Derek Savage still catching the eye.

Over in Moycullen on Sunday, Barna enjoyed a good joust with Killanin, and despite the scoring exploits of DD Faherty, they found the impressive combination play of the two Sweeneys, John Heaney, who scored the vital goal, and sharp shooter Niall Walsh too much to handle.

Walsh shot the last two points with style and he will be a big loss to Padraig Corbett’s side as he went to America for the summer early this week.

Elsewhere Caherlistrane, Micheál Breathnach’s, Kilkerrin/Clonberne, Carna/Caiseal, Leitir Mor, Corofin and Tuam Stars all advanced.

The draw for the next round is to take next Tuesday night.
