Galwegians are invited to attend a one day conference next week to discuss a six year economic and community plan for County Galway.
The meeting will take place on Thursday June 4 in the Connemara Coast Hotel, Furbo, and is organised by the Galway County Local Community Development Committee, in association with the Galway County Public Participation Network.
They are urging community organisations, business representatives, State agencies, rural and tourism interests, and members of the public to attend the conference and have their say on future plans for the county.
The Minister for Rural Affairs, Ann Phelan, will open the event, while fellow speakers will include Dr Cathal O’Donoghue, author of the CEDRA report on rural areas, Peter Couchman, CEO of the Plunkett Foundation, and Dr Karen Keaveney of University College Dublin on community planning and rural housing.
There will be a range of short presentations covering areas such as health and wellbeing, environment and infrastructure, agriculture and education, enterprise and employment, culture and language, and harnessing our natural resources.
Catherine McConnell, chief officer of Galway County Local Community Development Committee, says the conference is a critical element in formulating practical actions for inclusion in the county plan.
“This is an opportunity for interested parties from all over the county to ensure their voice is heard at the planning stages of this new plan. We have a great line up of speakers who will share their ideas with us and give examples of how communities can work together and with agencies and local government to provide solutions for local needs,” she says.
Master of ceremonies for the conference will be TG4 broadcaster and journalist, Eimear Ní Chonaola.
