Public talk on Yeats' The Wild Swans at Coole

WB YEATS The Wild Swans at Coole, published in 1917 and again, in an expanded edition in 1919, is one of his finest collections, containing such enduring works as the title poem, 'An Irish Airman Foresees His Death', 'The Phases of the Moon', and 'Ego Dominus Tuus'.

The book will be the subject of a public talk by the award-winning poet Martin Dyar at the Galway City Museum this Saturday at 2pm. Martin will present fresh interpretations of many of the poems; look at the historical events which surrounded the collection's publication; as well as Yeats financial dependancy on Lady Gregory; and why 'Easter 1916' was excluded from the book.

Martin Dyar’s debut collection of poems Maiden Names, published by Galway publishing company Arlen House, was a book of the year selection in the Guardian and The Irish Times. It was also shortlisted for the Pigott Poetry Prize and the Shine/Strong Award. He has also written a play, Tom Loves a Lord, about the Irish poet Thomas Moore.

Admission is free but places are limited so advance booking is essential through 091 - 532460.
