The economy is in recession, but it is not a reason to despair. Instead it is an opportunity for local enterprises to become proactive, self-reliant, and innovative, in order to meet the challenges of the future.
This is the view of Adrian Feeney, the treasurer for the Loughrea Community Forum and an Independent candidate in June’s Local Elections for the Loughrea ward.
Mr Feeney has organised a meeting of the Loughrea Community Forum to take place in Sullivan’s Hotel, Gort, at 8.30pm on Tuesday February 3 to look at how the area can meet the challenge of the recession.
Speakers at the meeting will include Charles Lynch of the County Development Board, Seamus Bree of Enterprise Ireland, Galway Advertiser chairman Ronnie O’Gorman, and Paul McCarthy of Teagasc.
“Although our economy is facing challenging times, we need to be self-reliant, and find ways to reinvent ourselves, to be innovative and creative so as to think outside the box, particularly in the area of enterprise,” said Mr Feeney. “The Forum is a means by which people have the opportunity to do just that.”
Mr Feeney said the meeting will be focus on communication, lateral thinking, supportive networks, community involvement, dissemination of information, and “educating ourselves about available grants, so that we don’t give up”.
All are welcome to attend the meeting, particularly individuals and groups who want to be informed of the local support networks in the Loughrea electoral area.
