Bertie Ahern to give NUI talk

Bertie Ahern, the country’s longest serving taoiseach since De Valera, is set to visit NUI Galway next week as an honoured guest of the Literary and Debating Society.

The NUI Literary and Debating Society is proud to announce that Mr Ahern will give an interview of his life and times at the society’s meeting on Monday February 2 in the university’s Kirwin Theatre at 7pm.

“For anyone who has an interest in Ireland’s politics and its role in modern times this is a must-see event,” said Jackie O’Driscoll, vice-auditor of the society.

Mr Ahern will receive the Literary and Debating Society’s President’s Medal and thereby joining such distinguished company as Roddy Doyle, Patrick McCabe, Fintan O’Toole, and Noam Chomsky who have been previous recipients of this award.

There will also be a chance to ask Mr Ahern questions at the end of the event and a reception will follow in Paddy’s Bar, Prospect Hill.
