Connemara All Blacks claimed this year’s Connacht Junior 2 League crown after overcoming cup winners Corinthians by 10-8 in Sunday’s final at the Sportsground.
The All Blacks victory denied Corinthians a seasonal double - the city side having claimed the Ard na Cregg Cup the previous week.
With both packs trying to dominate, the deadlock was brokenheCorinthians capitalized from an attacking scrum five metres out, and Keogh was able to supply out half Wayne Williams, who stepped inside the cover to claim an excellent touch down.
With the conversion missed, Corinthians led by 5-0 at the break, but Connemara opened the second half with a penalty from fullback Darren Little to close the gap to just two points.
The contest became a dour affair as the conditions deteriorated with both sides struggling to handle the ball.
Midway through the second half Corinthian’s substitute lock Rory Connellan was fouled as he broke into the opposition 22, and full back Kieran Dunne converted the penalty to regain the five-point lead.
However the All Blacks upped their game and, as their pack began to dominate, they finished with a flourish with No 8 MacDara Breathnach crashing over for an excellent try. The fullback added the extras to give his side a two point lead as time ran out.
