Sofie Hagen - Danish funnywoman for Róisín Dubh

DENMARK IS not a country associated in the public mind with stand-up comedy, but one women is set to turn that notion completely on its head when she takes to the stage of the Róisín Dubh next week.

Sophie Hagen, the multi-award-winning Danish comedian, who has already taken Britain by storm, will give a preview of her show for this year's Edinburgh festival in the Róisín on Wednesday May 20 at 9pm. Sophie's comedy mixes observations and home truths and tackles taboo subjects with charm and sensibility. Chortle.co.uk said, "the consistency of the quality and her instantly likeable demeanour coupled with her obvious enjoyment of performing made her a worthy winner of numerous awards".

Also playing is Alison Spittle, best known from Republic of Telly, The Year That's In It, and Choose or Lose. The Irish Times has called her "one to watch...she's great", while the Irish Independent declared her "bold and adventurous, highly entertaining and...beautifully surreal".

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
