‘UP TO My F Holes’ is not the kind of title you expect for a piece of classical music, but this composition by Judith Ring will be among those performed at the next Music For Galway concert.
Cellissimo: The Cello In Conversation, takes place on Sunday May 10 at 5pm, in Brigit’s Garden, Rosscahill, Connemara. The featured musician will be Crash Ensemble artistic director Kate Ellis, who no less a composer than Steve Reich called an “unbelievable young cellist who...has my unbounded admiration. She just radiates star quality”.
Weather permitting, Kate will perform pieces for solo cello in different parts of the garden. As well as the aforementioned ‘F Holes’ piece, the programme includes the world première of Barry Guy’s ‘SHE!’, for cello and electronics inspired by Samuel Beckett’s monologue Not I.
Kate will also perform work by Niall Vallely, Giovanni Sollima, Kaija Sarriaho, and Gavin Bryars, and take part in an interview with Music For Galway artistic director Finghin Collins.
Tickets are €18/14/6 from Music for Galway (091 - 705962, [email protected] ); Opus II, High Street; or www.tht.ie
