National success for Galway swimmers

Galway SC swimmers were on the podium at the Irish National Open Swimming Championships, claiming nine medals and setting three new Connacht records.

Leading the medal haul with two medals each were Andrew Moore, who won silver in the men’s 400 individual medley and bronze in the 200 individual medley, and Kate Kavanagh, who won silver in the women’s 50 backstroke and bronze in the 100 backstroke - also a new Connacht senior record. a

In the women’s 200 butterfly, Molly Dinneen won silver, while Aoife Shorten also won silver in the women’s 400 individual medley. Kate Finn won bronze in the 100 freestyle.

NUIG swimming sports scholarship students Cian Duffy and Kevin McGlade finished the meet in super style with Duffy winning silver in the men’s 100 butterfly, setting a new Connacht Senior record, and McGlade claiming bronze in the men’s 50 freestyle dash - another new Connacht record.

Other finalists and personal best performances were achieved by Isabelle Gibbs, Sophie Moran, Mitchell Wilson, Brian O’Farrell and Keela Mulhall.
