The Galway senior camogie team will face Cork in Semple Stadium, Thurles, on Sunday, May 3 (1.30pm ) in the Irish Daily Star division one league final after defeating Kilkenny by 5-7 to 2-9 last weekend in O'Connor Park.
The camogie final will be part of a double-header with the division one league hurling final between Cork and Waterford which throws-in at 3.30pm.
Tony Ward’s team qualified for the final courtesy of an impressive win over Kilkenny.
They grabbed a 1-4 to 0-0 lead in the opening quarter, thanks to a dream start when Niamh McGrath blasted a penalty to the net in the first minute, after a foul on Ailish O’Reilly.
McGrath, who finished with a tally of 2-4, added three pointed frees to a score from Molly Dunne to give the Tribeswomen a healthy advantage.
Kilkenny got themselves back into it with points from Gaule and Katie Power, but a brilliant 25th minute goal from O’Reilly made it 2-6 to 0-4 at half time.
However Gaule struck a much-needed Kilkenny after the resumption, with Gaule doing the business after taking a pass from Walsh.
Howeve when Denise Gaule had a penalty saved with four points between the sides, and Galway replied with a goal from Ann Marie Starr and McGrath, the game was up for Kilkenny.
Ann Dalton had another penalty saved, and though Gaule grabbed her second goal two minutes from time, O’Reilly struck Galway’s fifth to finish comfortably.
In the All-Ireland minor camogie championship, Galway lost out to a superior Tipperary side by 2-18 to 0-7.
Galway’s Leanne Freaney and Cliodhna Walsh have given their side an early lead, but Tipperary thentook over, scoring a goal and eight points from play in 12 minutes for a 1-9 to 0-2.
Galway finished the half with four points to narrow the gap, but Tipp made it 2-11 to 0-6 soon after the resumption, and Galway’s only score in the second half came from a free.
