The Galway Warriors enjoyed a winning start in their American Football season opener after beating South Kildare Soldiers 12-0 at St Mary’s College on Sunday.
Both defences were dominant throughout and it took an interception by Christopher Dalzell, which was returned for an 80 yard touchdown to open the scoring. Dalzell dominated both sides of the ball, scoring his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter.
Hard running by Cathal Creavan, Colm Griffin and Donal Hanley kept the chains moving all day, but the real stand out was the defence which prevented the South Kildare Soldiers from building any momentum.
This was Galway’s first home win, a real confident boost as they head to Dublin for their next game on May 3 against the West Dublin Rhinos.
