A NEW exhibition, featuring “vintage style females, vibrant colours, and hats”, by Galway artist Lorraine Fletcher, opens at the Renzo Café Gallery, Eyre Street, this Saturday.
The paintings were inspired by photos of Lorraine’s grandmother from the 1950s. In composing the works, she applied acrylic paint applied in a quick manner to begin with, to get an idea of composition and colour choice. She then applied detail with the use of outlines and dripping, and the final stage is to “fill the spaces with imagination”.
“Colour is everything to me,” she says. “It fashions, shines and stimulates me and is probably my greatest influence when painting.”
The exhibition opens at 8pm. The guest speaker is Fiona Mangan. See www.lorrainefletcherartstudio.com
