The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club was honoured at a mayoral reception at City Hall recently.
Hosted by the Mayor of Galway city, Donal Lyons, the reception was in recognition of the club’s unprecedented success at the Unified World Martial Arts Championships in Tuscany in Italy last year.
Coached by Pete Foley, a team of six fighters won five gold medals, two silver, and one bronze. The Mayor commended the athletes for their efforts in bringing international sporting recognition to the west of Ireland. “These hard working Galwegians are a credit and an inspiration to us all here in the City of the Tribes,” Donal Lyons said. “ These sporting ambassadors for Ireland can hold their heads high today and in the future as they continue to represent their country on the world stage.”
