TUCAN HAVE been away for a while but return to active live duy this month following the release of their new album Towers. Towers was released through the new Quiet Arch label (www.quietarch.com ), and will be supported by a tour taking in The Loft (formerly Kelly’s ), Bridge Street, on Friday April 24 at 9pm.
Towers was produced by God Is An Astronaut’s Torsten Kinsella and features Austrian violinist Claudia Schwab, who also sings on a couple of tracks.
Originally a guitar duo of Donal Gunne and Pearse Feeney, the pair released their debut album Aliquot Strings in 2009, following which Paul Wehrly was added on drums and Graham Heaney on bass.
The band membership has expanded again with a four piece brass section. The overall Tucan sound is now one of dynamic, textured guitars; moody bass; and stomping drums; complemented by orchestral overtones.
Admission is €10. See www.tucanmusic.com
