An Armada Corazon for Luis Asturias

GALWAY MUSICIANS and DJs will gather in the Black Box Theatre on Saturday February 7 from 6pm for Armada Corazon, a major fundraising show for the Spanish born, Galway based, musician Luis Asturias.

Luis Asturias has been one of the most prominent figures in the Galway music scene since arriving from his native Spain 12 years ago. He has played with many local bands and songwriters, most famously as bassist with Charis.

Recently Luis was diagnosed with a rare disease called amyloidosis which has affected his heart. His condition has worsened in the form of multiple myeloma; a type of blood cancer for which he is currently receiving treatment at UCHG.

Luis’ best long-term option is to receive an urgent cardiac transplant. A Spanish cardiologist has agreed to operate on him, however the cost for this procedure is substantial hence a major concern at present.

In the Black Box, there will be music from Charis, The Lazy Blues Band, Peter Byrne, Armada Latina, Tina Belladona, Carla Merrrigan, Lucia Evans, Martina Flaherty, Double F, and Stone Lakes.

There will also be DJ sets from One World, The Disconauts, Paul Hazo, and The Commander and from 7pm to 10pm there will be food by The Gourmet Offensive. The MC will be Hector Ó hEochagáin.

Tickets are €20 and are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777.

Donations for Luis’ treatment can be made to AIB account number 07034174. See also www.supportluis.com
