Community groups in Galway are being invited to take part in a new film project.
Run by Galway Film Centre in partnership with Galway city and county councils, the groups - community, social, or volunatry - will be given opportunities to make their own documentaries.
All equipment and technical back-up will be provided by the Galway Film Centre in “exchange for time, enthusiasm and ideas from community groups who wish to document their own story”.
“Groups hoping to participate in the projects should have a unique voice, which encapsulates their community, tradition, spirit, lifestyle, views and culture,” says a spokesperson.
The selected groups must be able to make a significant time commitment over the summer months (June to September ). However, hours can be tailored to suit the availability of selected group members.
The ID Film Projects aim to document a broad range of issues and social subjects by empowering groups to tell their own stories, giving participants basic foundation training, and hands-on experience in the areas of writing, directing, camera, sound and editing.
The Galway Film Centre will provide advice and support throughout the entire production process at no financial cost for the participating group.
Since the year 2000 Galway Film Centre have worked with more than 70 community groups giving people from a wide range of backgrounds access to the inside track of the documentary film-making process.
The selection of groups for the ID Film Project is on a competitive basis, and the Galway Film Centre says it is advisable to contact it for advice on the application process
