Pres Tuam hoping for more football glory

Presentation College Tuam face the Convent of Mercy Roscommon in the Connacht Senior A Ladies’ final this Friday in Kilbride (Roscommon ) at 12 noon.

The Pres Tuam are are the standard bearers in ladies’ football at schools level, having reached seven All-Ireland finals since joining the A ranks in 2002.

This year's team, captained by Aoife Burke, has some quality scoring forwards such as Tracey Leonard and Aoife Newell who are both proven goal scorers. Sisters Lisa and Roisin Leonard and the ever industrious Jenny Boyce are also key players in the Pres attack.

Their midfield duo of Louise Newman and Maria Connell have enjoyed an impressive season, while at the back they have some sterling defenders in the likes of Iona Burke, Jenny Mannion, Aoife Newell, and Sheila Brady, while Joanne Moran is a talented young goalkeeper.

While the Pres Tuam are the current All-Ireland champions, it was Mercy Roscommon who pushed them closest last season with only a single point separating the teams in that semi-final. Extra time and a replay were needed when these teams met at junior level two years ago.

It has the makings of a real classic, and Pres team manager Sean McGrath is confident that if his charges play to their potential, they can annex another Connacht title for Tuam.
