City house prices rise by fifteen per cent

The average asking price for a house in Galway city grew by 15 per cent in the first three months of this year, according to the latest house price report from Daft.ie

The average house price in the city now stands at €189,000, 21 per cent above its lowest point. Prices grew by three per cent in the same period last year.

In the rest of the county, prices in the first three months of 2015 were nine per cent higher than a year previously, compared to a fall of four per cent seen a year ago. The average house price is now €143,000, 13 per cent above its lowest point.

Nationally, the average asking price for a house grew by 4.6 per cent in the first quarter. This marks a return to price growth, following a one per cent fall in the final three months of 2014.

The average asking price nationwide is now €201,000, the first time since mid-2011 that it has been above €200,000. This compares with a low of €170,000 in mid-2013 and a high of €378,000 in mid-2007.
