The Galway branch of Ireland’s largest independent tyre retailers, Modern Tyres, which has 40 outlets nationwide, is offering motorists peace of mind this spring with a free tyre safety check.
These checks will identify the importance of keeping tyres at the correct pressure and ensuring they are legal and in good condition for the winter.
Low tyre pressures can cost the driver more money in fuel as well as pump more CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. It is important to understand that it is the air inside the tyre that carries the weight, not the tyre itself. Correct air pressure is vital to ensure a tyre can carry the weight and perform the way to which it was designed.
Recent government figures show under-inflated or defective tyres are responsible for more than a third of all road crashes resulting in injury. These figures also reveal that 12 per cent of cars and vans have at least one defective tyre and a further 12 per cent have at least one badly worn tyre worn below 2mm.
Modern Tyres is hoping that by offering motorists a free tyre safety check, it will make the roads a safer place.
Modern Tyres stocks all leading brands of tyre, including Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop, Pirelli, Vredestein, Kumho and Mohawk.
