Connacht’s Dan McFarland is being tipped to take over as assistant coach at Glasgow Warriors.
McFarland would step into the role vacated by the long-serving Shade Munro in his bid to “explore new opportunities abroad”.
McFarland announced last week that he was leaving Connacht after 15 years involvement with the province as both player and coach.
Having forged a reputation with Connacht, the Ireland u-20s (alongside Eric Elwood ) and the Wolfhounds, McFarland would be a real addition to Gregor Townsend’s side as they seek Pro 12 honours.
Connacht head coach Pat Lam said this week that McFarland’s departure was a “big loss”.
“When I arrived here, it was a tricky one because we didn’t know each other. Dan had applied for the job, so one of my first to-do list was to really connect with Dan because our relationship would be vital.
“The best part about it is our wives have become good friends, and his two children and two of mine play on the same team, so it’s not just a coaching relationship, but a good friendship.
“He’s been here a long time. I have had the opportunities to go to other environments to learn and become a better coach, and Dan has the same aspirations
“It’s a big loss for us in one sense, but a great opportunity for Dan, there is no doubt our friendship will continue.”
Lam said Connacht were going through the process to find a suitable replacement.
