Galway Steiner National School has been granted planning permission by Galway City Council for temporary accommodation at Brooklawn House (next to the Aviva offices in Knocknacarra ), prior to the completion of its permanent residence.
The three-classroom fit-out and accompanying playground development will be completed by the end of the summer.
The news has been welcomed by Lifeways Ireland (the patron body of Steiner Schools in Ireland ), as well as by the management committee of the new school.
‘The Galway community has been waiting a long time for its first ever Steiner National School” said Lindsay Myers, chairperson of the management committee.
“While this accommodation is only temporary, it’s great that we now have a venue for the school. We have met with the engineers responsible for the project and we are confidant that the building will serve the needs of our school well in these initial years.”
Galway Steiner National School is a multidenominational and co-educational school. It is one of three Steiner National Schools delivering the Irish State curriculum according to the Steiner model of provision, and it is the first Irish Steiner School to open with full State recognition.
Enrolment at the Galway Steiner National School remains open for Junior Infants for September 2015 and the coming years.
