City Direct Bus ,which provides public transport services in Galway city, has been shortlisted for Passenger Transport Company of The Year and the Safety Award in the upcoming Irish Logistics & Transport Awards 2015.
The Safety Award recognises an outstanding achievement in any area of safety improvement, and the Passenger Transport Company of the Year Award identifies an operator that has made real progress over the last year.
City Direct has had a busy year, which involved installing defibrillators on all vehicles, training drivers in cardiac first response, and introducing the Leap Card ticketing system to its operations.
The company is now hoping to take home both awards at this evening’s awards in the DoubleTree Hotel, Dublin.
“This would be a great achievement and testament to the effort we have put in to improve our service and the level of safety for our passengers,” says Tom Kelleher of City Direct.
“We are the first public transport operator in Europe to implement this kind of safety initiative on our vehicles and as a result have improved the security of our passengers and the overall experience on our services.”
City Direct has recently provided Gluais training to its drivers to enable them to professionally address the transport needs of elderly and disabled passengers and to work with wheelchairs, ramps, lifts and clamping equipment to further improve their level of service.
“We are always innovating and adapting to provide the best possible service for our passengers.”
