HSE advises outpatients to attend as scheduled as IT system failure has been substantially resolved

Patients are being advised to attend outpatient appointments as normal at Galway University Hospitals (University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital ) this week.

This comes as hospital authorities stated yesterday (Wednesday ) that the problem with its IT system has now been “substantially resolved”.

Delays were experienced at both hospitals on Monday and many departments reverted to manual processes, according to a spokesperson for the Saolta University Health Care Group.

IT engineers worked into the night to resolve the critical network issue. A number of orthopaedic outpatient appointments at Merlin Park had to be postponed. Contingency plans, including increased staffing, were put in place where required.

The healthcare group stated that a review into the incident and the related contingency plans was under way. It advised patients to keep their outpatient appointments as normal.

“Galway University Hospitals wishes to thank patients and the public for their co-operation and apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
