Dublin provide another test for Galway hurlers

The Galway hurlers face Dublin this Sunday in Parnell Park (2pm ) in their last league game before the league quarter-finals.

Dublin and Galway are level on four points, but irrespective of the result in Parnell Park, Galway have qualified for the league quarter-finals.

Galway beat both Clare and Kilkenny (two points each ) already in the league, while Dublin lost to Clare, so the head-to-head rule could come into play for Ger Cunningham’s side.

As the top four teams in division 1A qualify for the league quarter-finals, Galway will face Waterford, Wexford or Limerick in the last eight on Sunday week (March 29 ).

Last Sunday at Pearse Stadium, Anthony Cunningham’s men found Cork just a bit too good and conceded two soft goals to go down by 2-17 to 0-20.

Galway tried hard, but Cork looked sharper and more lively up front in particular.

To their credit, Galway did their best until the final whistle and Jason Flynn had a late goal disallowed for a suspected square ball, which would have drawn the tie.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the league pans out, and no doubt Galway will want to get as many competitive games as possible in the next few weeks before the start of the 2015 Leinster championship.
