An exhibition inspired by Twitter

SOME 500 million Tweets are sent every day, but what would happens if these microblogs were translated into sound? This is a question answered in a new exhibition.

Vibe, an installation by Cian McLysaght, involving a custom-constructed Vibe machine, is currently running at the 126 Gallery, Commerce House, Flood Street.

The Vibe machine seeks to create an auditory link between digital personae and the physical world by mining Twitter’s Application Programming Interface, re-configuring the emotional state of its community of users, and amalgamating them in sound.

The Vibe can be both played by Twitter followers, @vibe126, while also seeking out interaction with them, mimicking human characteristics, by posting Tweets to its own account. This continuous interaction and adaptation serves as an analogue for our online ‘selves’; the very nature of which at once enables and necessitates reinvention.

For more information see www.126.ie. Gallery opening times are 12 noon to 6pm, Mondays to Saturdays.
