Funds raised from the 2015 Choirfactor will enable a wide variety of groups to benefit from healing therapies and well-being workshops in the SCCUL Sanctuary in Kilcuan, Clarinbridge.
Since its establishment in 2012, The SCCUL Sanctuary has developed tailored therapy retreat days for support groups for people with Parkinson’s disease, MS, cancer and those bereaved by suicide. The SCCUL Sanctuary has also provided assistance to mental health and carers support groups and the Galway Head Injury Support group
Speaking this week Trisha Murphy, Manager SCCUL Sanctuary said “Funds from last year’s event helped us reach our goal to work with two groups who are in dire need of emotional support – the elderly members of society who are facing diagnosis of early dementia and Alzheimer’s and young people in society who are struggling with mental health issues. We now have four new clients groups in these areas.”
“We have worked closely with the relevant established charities to establish the therapies and healing treatments that would best benefit the service users in their groups. Clients can avail of a wide range of therapeutic workshops from mindfulness to music therapy or gardening to creative writing. “
Choirfactor 2015 will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel on Saturday March 28 at 8pm (doors open 7.30pm ) All choirs will be led by experienced choral directors, who have given their time free to teach their choirs over the weeks prior to the event.
The choirs will battle it out in an x-factor style competition to win the Choirfactor 2015 Trophy which is specially commissioned by Liam Butler, a Galway sculptor. Judges are Dr. Brendan O'Connor, Maire MacLochlainn and Dottie Knauer.
