The jobs market so far this year is very, very positive according to Niall Toland of HAYS Recruitment. Indeed he says when figures are compared to this time last year, there is a massive 135 per cent increase in the number of interviews the company has arranged for potential candidates. And to back this up, there is a 150 per cent increase in the number of jobs which HAYS has filled as opposed to January and February last year.
Mr Toland says there are increases in the creation of jobs across the board but he nominates the life sciences sector as being particularly busy. “The pharmaceutical and medical device companies are constantly expanding and looking for engineers. People do not think this, but it has an impact on the construction industry also, these buildings require constant maintenance and refurbishment. Ronan O’Sullivan of Cpl says the announcement by Apple that it is constructing a data centre in Athenry is very exciting. He believes it will lead to more multi-national companies taking note of the move and considering the west of ireland as a potential location. “The arrival of Apple is very interesting. In reality, a data centre can be run with a very low number of employees. But the construction element will create a lot of jobs, we will be seeking out who is building the centre and targeting them as a client. There is no doubt that Apple is watched, others will now question why they made this move and look at what the west has to offer. It is hoped this announcement will lead to some more significant companies coming to the area down the line.”
Mr O’Sullivan says it is also very positive that local, home-grown companies like Lifes 2 Good and Blue Tree Systems are creating jobs. “These are both very progressive companies with excellent growth potential. There is a good mix of roles available at Lifes 2 Good in customer service, graphics, marketing and office admin. Blue Tree Systems is an IT company with roles available in areas like software engineering, Java development and technical support.”
