A kaleidoscope of exciting new colours, prints, silhouettes and trends has heralded the spring/summer collection at Brown Thomas.
The mood for the season is one of newness, optimism and freedom with the introduction of chic new labels, such as Self-Portrait, while the Italian Gedebe is the newest handbag label to arrive at the Accessories Hall. The love affair with Michael Kors continues to blossom with the designer’s jewellery collection being launched in-store.
Designers reminisced about the old, updated the new and imbued collections with freshness and diversity. Military uniforms were given a feminine twist while signature looks from the 1950s and ‘60s took on a modern feel with updated fabrics and prints.
This season accessories undergo a renaissance with classic designs reworked in mini styles. Bright pops of orange and pink add a fun edge while perennial favourites, such as the shoulder and clutch bag, feature in dusty pastels and whiskey browns chanelling all things seventies.
The 1970s were born on the catwalk this spring with this rich bohemian era revelling under fashion’s spotlight. Designers revisited 70s silhouettes, prints and motifs, keeping the mood relaxed and playful.
Sports Glam is a major trend this spring and comprises a contemporary and fresh mix of feminine, flirtatious silhouettes and street-glam athletic sportswear. Colours range from crisp summer whites to monochromatic colour palettes spiked with bright and conflicting pales. Athletic trims and performance fabrics such as mesh combined with a pared back aesthetic give a vibrant, sporty edge. Lightweight, fluid materials offer a softer and more feminine approach.
There is a touch of monastic zen on the catwalks, also in long, graceful layers. Natural raw silks, linens and crisp cottons, in understated neutrals, exude purity and timelessness in elongated silhouettes. Hues are rooted in classic neutrals - grey, beige, oatmeal and nude while cotton whites and wheat are broken with dense black. Exquisite pieces from Marant Etoile, Hugo Boss and Max Mara studio all channel monastic zen for the season ahead.
There are shades of the Victorian era in the sheer black lace and corsetry that is so evident today. New to BT Galway this season, Self-Portrait features lace bodice dresses with full volume skirts that give a truly feminine edge. Gorgeous hand embellished creations in dark palettes from Needle and Thread transcend the trend perfectly.
