Property worth €2.9 million sold at O’Donnellan & Joyce auction

O’Donnellan & Joyce recorded a hugely successful property auction when the company placed 19 properties under the auction hammer, selling a total of €2.9 million on the day.

According to auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan there was enormous demand, particularly for family homes, with the highlight of the afternoon being a property in Glenard Crescent, Salthill, a four bedroom semidetached residence with a spacious interior and a south-facing rear garden. In need of substantial modernisation and refurbishment, the property attracted five interested parties and in a matter of minutes it reached the reserve price of €400,000, and the five parties exchanged numerous bids until the auctioneer’s hammer went down at a record price of €472,000.

Other family homes which attracted huge interest included a detached house at Stradbally North, Clarinbridge. This five bedroom detached house, which also needed some refurbishment and modernisation, stands on 0.5 acre. The bidding commenced at €300,000 and four different individuals bid on the property in increments of €5,000 until the hammer was brought down at €340,000. Another property which had seen massive interest was a luxury six bed detached home in Furbo, designed by Olympic stadium designer Hermann Peltz, which sold for €485,000 to a thrilled purchaser who said he felt like he had won the gold medal at the Olympics after his final bid brought the hammer down to a tumultuous applause from the audience.

Investors were out in force looking for value for money with a mixed use retail, office, and residential development at Dun Eibhir in Furbo. Bidding on this property was intense with an opening bid of €370,000, increasing in bids of €5,000 until it was eventually sold for €430,000. Investors were also present for three houses in Ballybane; No 23 Bayview Rise, a four bed mid-terrace residence in need of refurbishment, had excellent interest. Bidding started at €60,000 and the auctioneer’s hammer fell at €96,000. No 22 Heather Grove, a six bed detached property, had five individuals bidding, starting at €100,000 and selling for €173,000. No 16 Clareview Park also attracted excellent interest and sold for €118,000.

Tremendous value was also on offer outside Galway city at the O’Donnellan & Joyce auction, such as No 5 Weighbridge House in Oughterard, a two bedroom apartment which sold for €60,000. A partially complete house on 0.5 acre in Brockagh, Corofin, sold for €70,000. A two bedroom apartment at No 3 Aonach, Ballinasloe, sold for €29,500.

There was a variety of land sold on the day including 50 acres of agricultural land in Barna, which sold for €100,000. A site with full planning permission in Sliabh Carron, Ennis Road, Gort, sold for €36,000.
