In-form Galway Ladies now face a wounded Cork

Galway Ladies have gone top of the National Football League’s division one after a super 4-15 to 1-6 victory over Tyrone in Tuam on Sunday.

The unbeaten Supermacs-sponsored Galway Ladies are now one point clear in the Tesco Home Grown NFL after Monaghan and Mayo secured unexpected victories over Cork and Dublin.

The ladies now face a tough challenge against Cork, who will be smarting from their 2-11 to 2-10 defeat to Monaghan. It will require another step up for the Galway ladies against the All Ireland champions, but they will travel full of confidence in a bid to maintain their unbeaten record.

Cork will certainly provide a stiffer challenge than Tyrone last weekend, who, despite opening with a goal in the first minute, found themselves down by 4-07 to 1-05 at the interval.

Galway replied a minute later when Edel Concannon found the back of the net, before Joline Donnelly put Tyrone back in front - the last time they would lead.

Galway totally overpowered them for the remainder of the half, and but for efforts of Tyrone goal keeper Shannon Lynch, who pulled off some brillant saves, including a penalty block, the gap would have been wider.

Goals from Sinead Burke, Louise Ward, and a second from Edel Concannon ensured Galway had a healthy lead which allowed manager Kevin Reidy to give all his squad game time in the second half.

Although Tyrone had more posession, Galway still outscored them and ran out easy winners, with Edel Concannon scoring 2-04.
