New traffic lights for Ballybane Road

Work has begun on the installation of new traffic lights on the Ballybane Road, but the Galway City Council has been criticised for not installing a safe crossing sooner.

Sinn Féin city councillor Mairéad Farrell, who had been working with the Transportation Unit in City Hall to have the issue addressed, has welcomed work starting. However she said “the old traffic lights had been out of action for an unacceptable length of time, making it very dangerous for people living in estates located on the road to cross over from one side to the other.”
