A new multidenominational co-educational primary school will open in Tuam in September.
The Educate Together facility will be one of three new national schools to open this year. The others are in Castlebar, Co Mayo, and New Ross, Co Wexford.
Jarlath Munnelly, Educate Together regional development officer for Ireland West said this is a “fantastic development” for the organisation.
“This provides further choice for the parents living in Tuam and goes another step on the road to providing Educate Together schools right across the country.”
Commenting on the announcement, Educate Together CEO Paul Rowe said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to open a new school in Tuam and to meet the demonstrated demand for educational diversity in the area.”
Parents who wish to pre-enrol their children in Tuam Educate Together national school should fill out the pre-enrolment form at www.educatetogether.ie/tuam Educate Together has been offering parents a choice in Irish education since 1978, when its first school, the Dalkey School Project opened. It has grown over the following years to a national network of 74 national schools with more than 19,000 pupils currently enrolled.
The first three second-level schools with Educate Together as patron or joint patron opened in Dublin and Drogheda in 2014 and Celbridge Community School will open in 2015.
Educate Together schools are child-centred and teach the national curriculum. A founding principle of its approach to education is that all children are treated with equal respect, regardless of social, cultural or religious backgrounds.
