Karl Boyle, the CEO of Mountaineering Ireland has been appointed head of operations with Connacht Rugby and will take up the position with the province in March.
Mr Boyle is a graduate of commerce from NUI Galway and has a masters of business administration from Dublin City University. A native of Claremorris, he is a former Mayo inter-county footballer and captained successful teams at both underage and senior level for Claremorris GAA club. He also played rugby at underage level for Newbridge RFC.
Prior to joining the national governing body for mountaineering in 2010, where he developed and implemented significant operational plans, Mr Boyle served more than a decade with the Defence Forces. His experiences include service with the United Nations in Liberia and with the EU Force in Bosnia.
Announcing the appointment Willie Ruane, CEO of Connacht Rugby, said: “We are delighted to have found a candidate of Karl's calibre for what will be a challenging and exciting role. Karl’s experience as a leader with Mountaineering Ireland and his impressive exploits with the Defence Forces means that he will be a huge addition to our organisation. He is passionate about Connacht Rugby and about our vision for the future.”
Mr Boyle says it is “an exciting time” for Connacht Rugby and that he is looking forward to taking up the roll.
