Inter-schools showjumping competition returns to Salerno

Following the success of last year’s event, Salerno Secondary School, Salthill, will host its second Inter-schools showjumping competition on Sunday March 8 at Duffy’s Equestrian Centre, Claregalway.

“We are very excited to host this event again this year with the continued support and generosity of the Duffy family,” said Kathleen Morley, sports co-ordinator at Salerno.

The school hopes to welcome back students from secondary schools all over Ireland to compete in the event. “What has made this event unique is the fact that all the girls and their parents helped with the planning of it,” Ms Morley said. “They’ve all had their input.

“This event is a great opportunity for pupils to compete for their school, either as part of a team or as individuals, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.”

Both novice and open showjumping levels will be welcome on the day. “We’re very keen to especially welcome any rider from any secondary school, anywhere, even if they’re not part of a team. We’ll be taking individual entries on the day,” Ms Morley added.

“Again, we have had support from great sponsors and will be offering some great prizes on the day.”

A new feature in this event is the addition of a HSI 1.10m Premier Class qualifier. “We are delighted this year to be in a position to provide an opportunity for riders to qualify for the Horse Sport Ireland sponsored 1.10m individual class to be held at the final in April,” said Ms Morley.

Salerno Secondary School is looking forward to welcoming all equestrian supporters to, what promises to be, an exciting and fun-filled day.
