DUKE SPECIAL will preview music from his new album Look Out Machines! when he plays the Róisín Dubh on Friday February 27 at 8pm.
The album will be released on April 6 via Stranger Records. That date will also see the release of the single ‘Nail On The Head’, which combines swells of strings and synths with the Ulsterman’s trademark elegant piano playing. Speaking about the album, Duke said it is “a photograph of where I am right now; it feels like a kind of gathering-in. It feels almost like a little launching-pad”. A taste of the album was provided via the single 'Elephants Graveyard', released late last year:
Duke Special has enjoyed success with albums like Songs From The Deep Forest, and singles such as ‘Freewheel’. He has also worked with Steve Albini; performed with the Ulster and RTÉ concert orchestras; and written music for Deborah Warner’s critically acclaimed 2009 production of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children. He was also commissioned by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to write a series of original songs based on an exhibition of photographs by Stieglitz, Steichen, and Strand.
