While polls indicate a large majority support equal marriage rights, there can be no room for complacency in the Yes campaign which must ensure a good turnout on polling day.
This is the view of the Galway branch of the People Before Profit Alliance which will launch its campaign for a Yes vote in May’s referendum. The launch takes place on Wednesday February 25 at 7.30pm in the Imperial Hotel, Eyre Square.
Speakers on the night will be Ailbhe Smyth, national convenor of PBPA and board member of Marriage Equality; and Tomas Heneghan a student journalist and local LGBT activist. They will outline why PBPA is supporting a Yes vote and how it will go about campaigning for it.
“Ireland has come a long way in the last 20 years in its treatment of LGBT people,” said a PBPA spokesperson. “We invite all those who are interested in campaigning for a Yes vote to attend and get involved. It is only through people working together to get the message and turnout out that we can achieve a Yes vote.”
All are welcome to the campaign launch
