Leading Independent socialist TD Clare Daly and controversial Wexford TD Mick Wallace will address the Galway Alliance Against War’s annual general meeting.
Deputies Daly and Wallace were arrested at Shannon Airport as they attempted to search a US military transport plane. They are due to stand trial this month at Ennis District Court. Their incursion at the airport came on the foot of two incursions carried out by GAAW peace activists Margaretta D’Arcy and Niall Farrell.
“In 2014 there was no let up on the US military’s use of Shannon with more than 55,000 armed troops passing through en route to war,” said a GAAW spokesperson. “Irish people are naturally horrified at the slaughter in Paris and the rise of the barbaric IS. However, all of these horrors can be traced directly to the barbarism of the US and British invasion of Iraq that so far has caused the deaths of more than one million innocent people.”
The GAAW’s AGM takes place on Monday February 16 at 7.45pm in Richardson’s, Eyre Square. All are welcome to attend
