Youth unemployment in Galway can be reduced, but only if employers start to engage with two new schemes aimed at helping young job seekers.
This is the view of Labour Galway senator Lorraine Higgins who is calling on Galway employers to engage with First Steps and JobsPlus Youth.
According to Sen Higgins, First Steps offers young people aged between 18 and 25 work experience and training, while The JobsPlus Youth programme is an expansion of the JobsPlus employer incentive scheme, giving employers cash payments to assist with wage costs when they hire young people from the Live Register.
“Both First Steps and the JobsPlus Youth are designed to help young people receive the skills, training, and support they need to enter or re-enter the workforce,” said Sen Higgins. “I strongly urge local employers to embrace these schemes and give our young people the chance they crave.”
