ASYLUM ARCHIVE, a new exhibition at the Galway Arts Centre, will examine the Direct Provision system in Ireland and the effect on the people who go through it.
Asylum Archive: Mapping Absences, by Dublin based visual artist and researcher Vukasin Nedeljkovic, opens at 6pm tomorrow in the centre on Dominick Street.
The subject of direct provision in Ireland is contentious; with research and lobby groups presenting consistent evidence of dehumanisation of asylum seekers in Ireland. As a result, the artist, through video, photography, and found objects, has chosen to represent the structure of direct provision through the absence of people.
A panel discussion organised with Create: The development agency for collaborative arts, takes place at 6pm on Tuesday March 3 in the GAC. The panel will include Vukasin Nedeljkovic, artist Anthony Haughey, curator Megs Morley, and academics Charlotte McIvor and Anne Mulhall.
