Galway WFC must take chance of quick revenge

Galway WFC’s top-scorer last season, Sinead Taylor, returned to Eamonn Deacy Park in the green of Peamount United on Sunday and played a major part in her side’s 3-1 victory.

As a forerunner of the impending cup clash, Taylor grabbed her side’s second goal - and her first for the Dubliners - to swing the contest Peamount’s way after the hour mark.

Now manager Don O’Riordan will be hoping his charges bounce back in style this weekend when they travel to take on the same side in the Continental Tyres WNL Cup semi-final in Dublin.

Galway WFC started the brighter and dominated the opening quarter hour. Captain Ruth Fahy put them one up after 15 minutes when she dusted herself down to convert a spot kick after she was up- ended in the Peamount box.

However the goal ignited the visitors and within four minutes they had levelled when the lively Eleanor Ryan-Doyle converted after great work by Jess Gargan down the right wing.

Although Galway WFC made a double substitution at the break, bringing on Eleanor Stafford and Roisin Jacob, they were behind on the hour mark when Taylor made her mark.

Galway battled well with Lynsey McKey coming close on a couple of occasionsm, but Peamount substitute Clare Kinsella wrapped up all three points when she latched onto a Sylvia Gee cross.

In the end keeper Tina Hughes twice saved in the dying minutes from a brace of Gargan shots.
