Galway charity event appeals for 1c and 2c coins

It is estimated that a massive €35 million is floating around the economy in 1c and 2c coins. Giving away your coppers can make a big difference to the lives of thousands of people.

The ‘Change for Charity’ roadshow will be based in Galway tomorrow [Friday] outside Penney’s in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre. Some famous faces will add their weight to the fundraising initiative including Galway hurling goalkeeper Colm Callinan and TG4 presenter Máire Treasa Ní Dubhghaill.

‘Change for Charity’ is the brainchild of Norma Smurfit who has been fundraising for more than 40 years across Ireland. With this campaign she hopes to encourage people to donate the coppers clogging up their wallets to help a number of Irish charities.

Money raised from tomorrow’s event goes to five selected Irish charities which include St Vincent De Paul, The Irish Heart Foundation, Irish Autism Action, and Gaisce.
