An exhibition which will showcase the creative and imaginative artwork of people attending a day centre for people with mental health difficulties in Merlin Park will be launched today (Thursday ) at the Secret Garden, 4 William Street at 11.30am.
The exhibition of the work of service users of the Ceim Eile Day Centre exhibition will be facilitated by artist Joanna Kasinska. Entitled ‘Bloom’ it will run until St Valentine’s Day.
Ceim Eile provides a comprehensive programme of meaningful activities which are designed to be therapeutic in nature and which provide opportunities for interaction, communication, consultation and choice and ultimately enhance self-esteem, self-awareness and self-confidence.
Mairéad Keenan, the clinical nurse manager II, at the centre says the artwork was created by a passionate group who had the opportunity to explore and experiment with different art forms.
“The Bloom exhibition is an exploration of colour and playfulness and participants were often challenged to use only set colours or forms, exploring the limitless nature of imagination. Through this exhibition we hope to promote art as an inclusive and healing tool.
“Art can educate and raise consciousness, mediate in processes of social change and awareness, encourage community engagement and personal well-being. It can be a therapeutic activity that helps people to tell their story.”
