THE GREAT Máirtín O’Connor headlines a major concert in the Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway, on Friday February 13 to raise funds for the Galway County Fleadh.
After an absence of 35 years, the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Galway County Fleadh, returns this year with events taking place in NUIG. The fleadh is a competitive event for traditional Irish musicians, starting at county level, followed by provincial competition, culminating with the All-Ireland Fleadh in August.
As a curtain raiser to the fleadh, accordionist Máirtín O’Connor, the Gradam Ceoil TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year, will headline next week’s NUIG concert. He is an acclaimed solo artist and has been a member of such distinguished bands as Midnight Well and De Dannan. He has also worked with Rod Stewart and Elvis Costello.
Máirtín will be joined by an array of other musicians and singers. Doors for the February 13 concert are at 7.30pm. Free parking will be available in NUI Galway after 7pm. For more information contact 085 - 8408746.
