Labour senator Lorraine Higgins is proposing that road safety concerns in Kinvara could be remedied by the introduction of a boardwalk for pedestrians from the town to Dunguaire Castle.
She said that that success of the Wild Atlantic Way has resulted in heavier traffic on the N67, which runs from Kilcolgan through Kinvara into County Clare. This increase has in turn lead to heightened concerns about road safety in Kinvara.
”While the success of the Wild Atlantic Way is most welcome, the issue of road safety is also very important and needs to be addressed.
“This is why I am proposing that a boardwalk for pedestrians be developed, to run alongside the Quay Road and the N67 to Dunguaire Castle.
“This infrastructure would offer a safer and viable alternative for locals while retaining the integrity of the natural environment for which Kinvara is so renowned.
”I have had a number of sketches of the proposed boardwalk completed, to illustrate how it could be incorporated into the existing roads system within the town.
“I have written to the Director of Services for Roads and Transportation in Galway County Council, to outline this proposal as a solution to the road safety issue in Kinvara. I look forward to discussing the matter with him and any local residents who must be able to walk freely and safely around their community.”
