Own a bit of Ashford’s history as castle furnishings go under hammer next month

One thousand lots of furniture and furnishings from Ashford Castle go under the hammer on February 7 and 8 by public auction.

The auction comes as Ashford Castle, Irelands’ best known five star hotel, continues the redecoration of 55 guest suites and many areas within the historic hotel.

Auctioneer Aidan Foley of The Galway Auction Rooms will conduct the sale of 1,000 lots with no reserve.

“This is a most exciting sale, offering an opportunity to purchase some excellent quality items which will be of interest to interior designers looking for that special piece with excellent provenance,” he says.

Following last year’s successful auction, it has been decided to sell the 1,000 lots over two days on this occasion. The sale includes curtains, lamps, iccasional tables, chairs, sofas, beds, throws, desks, dressing tables and towel radiators.

There is also a large collection of pictures, prints, mirrors and a selection of high quality antique furniture.

The old Sawmills on the Clonbur Road will again be the venue for the auction.

Viewing will be on Friday February 6 with the auction taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Further details will be posted online at www.irishcountryhome.com as Aidan Foley of Galway Auction Rooms makes progress with the preparation of the auction.
