Businesses participating in the fifth annual SCCUL Enterprise Awards and Business Expo will have the opportunity to attend a series of mentoring masterclasses on key business management issues in the Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway on Thursday January 29.
The masterclasses will take place at 2pm prior to the official opening of the Business Expo. Topics covered in the masterclasses will include employment law for start ups, taxation tips for small business and navigating the enterprise ecosystem in Galway.
Leading experts have been lined up to deliver the master classes including Kevin Moore of MG Ryan Solicitors; Paul Mee Mazars, and Declan Droney, Kinvara Smoked Salmon.
Speaking this week, Michael Smyth, General Manager SCCUL Enterprises said,
“This free event will give small businesses the chance to gain a valuable insight on some of the key business management issues from expert tutors. Attendees will find information and advice on core elements of business management including business planning, employment law and taxation.”
The business masterclasses will be followed at 3.30pm by the official opening of the SCCUL Enterprise Awards Business Expo by the Mayor of Galway City, Cllr. Donal Lyons. Minister Damien English, Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Skills, Research and Innovation will deliver the key note address at the official opening.
Over 160 businesses from Galway City and County are expected to participate in the SCCUL Awards Business Expo which takes place from 3pm and concludes with the awards ceremony at 6pm.
All business sectors will be represented including business services, consumer goods and services, arts tourism and leisure, ICT, agriculture and food and social enterprise. This is the second year of the Student Enterprise category and displays from the third level students who entered the awards will be featured at the Business Exhibition.
Household names from the business sector have also confirmed their attendance at what is shaping up to be the largest business networking event in Galway this year. Former RTE Dragon, Norah Casey and Chairman of the IDA, Frank Ryan and President of NUI Galway, Dr James Browne will be the guest speakers at the awards ceremony. Michael Smyth is encouraging members of the public and Galway’s business community to attend the event. “ This is a great opportunity for members of the public and the business community in Galway visit the expo and see at first hand the entrepreneurial activity in Galway. It is also a valuable networking opportunity to meet like minded people and to pick up top tips from our celebrity guests and business experts.”
