BOYFIGHTS, THE exciting indie-rock quartet play the new series of Citóg nights for 2015 when they take to the stage of the Róisín Dubh tomorrow at 9pm.
Over the past two years, the band have become a firm favourite of indie heads and live music audiences in Galway with regular shows at the Róisín. Sonically they draw strongly on the Pixies for their musical style and sense of dynamics, but wisely use it as a springboard, never an impediment, towards continually developing a signature sound - best heard on the pulsating alternative-rock of ‘Cold’ and the almost countrified ‘Turning Tides’.
The band possess a talented songwriter and rhythm guitarist in Eoin Reilly; a dynamic percussionist in Dan Nestor; and a charismatic and striking frontwoman in vocalist/bassist Liza McCann. The recent recruitment of Oh Boland drummer Simon McDonagh on guitar and backing vocals brings out further dynamics and possibilities in Boyfight’s songs. All that is required now is an EP /album and some festival slots to show the rest of Ireland how good they are.Also on the bill are fellow Galwegians The Sandy Rats whose music mixes indie and blues and cite The Stone Roses and The Libertines as influences; and Galway based singer songwriter Mark Connolly.Admission is free.
