Ó Brolcháin gives a ‘must do better’ verdict on City Hall’s energy efficiency rating

City Hall has received an energy rating of E1, which according to Green Cllr Niall Ó Brolcháin is “not very energy efficient” and shows there is “much room for improvement”.

City Hall this week became one of the first public buildings in the country to publish its official energy rating. While Cllr Ó Brolcháin was not overjoyed by the result he said: “I suspect that many public buildings will not do a whole lot better.”

Cllr Ó Brolcháin said Galway is making strides in the area of green issues and cited the recent Irish Business Against Litter survey, the highest recycling rate in the country, and the best local authority for Green Flags in Irish schools.

“E1 shows that there is work to do but I believe it can be done,” he said. “The important thing about this scheme is that we will now know for the first time, exactly how energy efficient our buildings really are.”
