Celebrate the Spanish Institute with wine and tapas

The Spanish Institute at the Granary Learning Centre will host an evening of free demonstrations, wine, and tapas at Cava restaurant tomorrow (Friday ) as the institute launches its cultural programme 2009.

The cultural programme is the latest innovation in language teaching from the Granary. The launch party will take place from 5.30pm to 7pm in Cava, Dominick Street.

“Most language teaching is classroom based and, frankly, can be quite dull with unending grammar exercises and phrase repetitions,” said Phil, director of the Granary Learning Centre, explained. “We wanted to make the experience more well-rounded and interesting by placing the language in the context of the culture in which it is normally used. With this in mind we have added sections to each of our courses that will cover food and drink, art, history, and other aspects of the culture. Of course we will still provide a solid grounding in grammar and speaking at the beginner levels, and discourse and writing at the higher levels.”

Tomorrow’s event is open to all but will be of special interest to people who have an interest in Spain and Latin America; and to people who are considering taking up Spanish for travel, work, or personal reasons.

The Granary Learning Centre is Galway’s newest and most progressive language school. Courses are now offered in English as a second language, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, German, Czech, Slovak, and Chinese. Contact the Granary at (091 ) 566759 or visit www.granarylearning.ie
